The most common causes include high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels, smoking, inflammatory autoimmune diseases, infections, genetic predisposition and advanced age.<\/p>\n<p>An untreated abdominal aortic aneurysm can be life-threatening. The weakened vessel wall can rupture (aortic rupture) and lead to internal bleeding.
